Telling the time- Paper Plate clock
Telling the time is a great skill for kids to learn. Paper
plate clock is an excellent resource to get children to talk about time. Help
your child to learn to say the time by designing a handy paper clock. Below are
the materials needed and steps to follow to design a paper clock.
Materials:
Ø Paper
Plate
Ø Crayons,
Markers, or Paint
Ø Construction
Paper
Ø Number
stickers (1 to 12) and Numbers by 5s to 60
Ø Paper
Fastener
Ø Glue
Stick
Ø Scissors
Directions:
Cut 12 small circles or squares from
construction paper. Place the numbers 1 to 12 on the squares, and then glue the
squares in the appropriate spots on the paper plate. If you do not have number
stickers, you can simply write the numbers onto the squares. Cut out numbers by
5s unto 60 and place them under set of 1 to 12 numbers. Place the numbers in
this order:
Top: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12
Bottom: 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 60
Draw two clock arrow hands,
one a little smaller than the other. Cut them out. Push the ends of both clock
hands onto the pointed ends of the paper fastener, then poke the paper fastener
through the center of the paper plate clock face. The paper fastener should be
loose enough so that the clock hands can move around freely.
The clock is now ready to
use to practice telling time.
