Telling the time- Paper Plate clock




Telling the time is a great skill for kids to learn. Paper plate clock is an excellent resource to get children to talk about time. Help your child to learn to say the time by designing a handy paper clock. Below are the materials needed and steps to follow to design a paper clock.

Materials:

Ø  Paper Plate
Ø  Crayons, Markers, or Paint
Ø  Construction Paper
Ø  Number stickers (1 to 12) and Numbers by 5s to 60
Ø  Paper Fastener
Ø  Glue Stick
Ø  Scissors

Directions:

Cut 12 small circles or squares from construction paper. Place the numbers 1 to 12 on the squares, and then glue the squares in the appropriate spots on the paper plate. If you do not have number stickers, you can simply write the numbers onto the squares. Cut out numbers by 5s unto 60 and place them under set of 1 to 12 numbers. Place the numbers in this order:
Top:                1          2          3          4          5          6          7          8          9          10        11        12
Bottom:          5          10        15        20        25        30        35        40        45        50        55        60
Draw two clock arrow hands, one a little smaller than the other. Cut them out. Push the ends of both clock hands onto the pointed ends of the paper fastener, then poke the paper fastener through the center of the paper plate clock face. The paper fastener should be loose enough so that the clock hands can move around freely.

The clock is now ready to use to practice telling time.

Explore the use of your smart device as a teacher




Have you walked into your classroom on a Monday morning and suddenly you remember that you left your flash pen on the dining table where you hurriedly took a cup of tea in order to get to work in good time. What a way to start the week right? Especially knowing fully well that   all the lessons and digital resources you have prepared for the week have been saved on that flash pen. The next line of action is to start thinking of how to hurriedly put one or two resources and lesson plans together in order not to look like a confused individual before your students  or school administrator.

Teaching and learning must be taken beyond the conventional methodologies and we must make adequate use of technology to aid our teaching and learning processes.
With my years of experience as a teacher I have seen cases where colleagues have more than one smart device and yet their world almost come crashing down when they find themselves hooked in a similar scenario I described above. Teachers must learn to make maximum use of their smart devices beyond chatting on social media, taking photo shots, and posting podcast of themselves on the internet.

A 21st century teacher that owns any smart device should find a thousand and one ways to make such device useful to them at work.
Here are some ways you can make your smart device most valuable to you as a teacher:

Ø  Drop box : You can make use of this tool to store up your files and this can give you access to all your files anywhere you are once you can get an internet access.
Ø  Google drive: Another online tool provided by GOOGLE which you can also use to store google files and this tool can be accessed on any smart device that you own.
Ø  Make a recorded video lesson of yourself (Flipped Lesson) and upload on a learning platform for easy access to your students. The interesting part of this is that you do not necessarily have to be present physically to teach your learners. Learners can always rewind, pause and replay the lessons if necessary.
Ø   Microsoft Forms can be used to design test or quiz for students online.

Ø   Share point is a tool that allows you to share a resource online with colleagues . A great resource to use for setting up school’s timetable or a term planner.

Board Displays

Happy New Year Blog Readers. Its 2017 already. I can’t believe 2016 has rolled away into eternity. We are back again in preparation for a New School Year, second term to be precise . I wanted my learning room to have a different look, out of the ordinary and so I came up with this concept of using the Angry Birds Board Display. Initially I had some confusions on how to play it out, but thanks to my colleague Mrs Ogunleye we both pulled off a beautiful board display for our learning room.


Description of the display : The eggs stolen by the pigs represents skills to be learnt for the term; the angle made by Bomb, Chuck, Red and others shows a team work. Teachers and pupils team up together to achieve the skills. Have Fun!

Literacy Worksheets


I have a four year old son whom I was forced to support with learning materials to learn phonics. I had never thought children of his age group but  had always desired that he would start reading at a very early age. My goal was to ensure he starts reading at least two letter words by the time he was four. With a lot of research work and interest , I started developing resources that helped him to learn phonics. With the support of his teachers in school we were able to achieve my goal. He is now four and does not only read a two letter word but has proceeded to reading three letter words. Below is a sample of some of the materials i made use of while helping my son to master phonics in early years.
